2024 Beethoven Academy — Cagliari

The first session of the Beethoven Academy will take place from June 30 to July 8, 2024, in Cagliari, Sardinia, at the crossroads of Mediterranean cultures. Hosted at the Conservatorio Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, a century-old Italian musical institution, the academicians will be under the direction of Alessandro Moccia (violin), Corrado Masoni (violin), Catherine Puig (viola), Georges Barthel (flute), and Bart Cypers (natural horn).

The academy’s educational program aims to train 35 young European musicians on the societal, environmental, and artistic challenges they will encounter in their professional careers. During the week, the musicians will work on a musical program centered around Beethoven's 8th Symphony, which will be performed in a free concert in the Conservatory’s auditorium at the end of the week.

To bring music to the city and its inhabitants and demonstrate the societal value of musicians, several "pocket concerts" will also be organized in symbolic locations and nursing homes. Additionally, throughout the week, workshops will be led by Eric Blot, an esteemed luthier specializing in historical instruments, and Nadia Mirabella, a sustainable arts consultant and co-founder of Chloe Sustainability.

The call for applications for the 2024 edition of the Beethoven Academy closed on April 22, 2024.
